What is your astrology number?

Your astrology number, known in numerology as your Life Path number, is the single most important number drawn from your date of birth. Where your zodiac sign comes from the sky, your Life Path comes from the maths of the day you were born. It describes the overall theme of your life: your natural strengths, the lessons you keep meeting, and the direction that feels most like home. Think of it as the headline of your numerology chart.

How the number finder works

The finder needs one thing only: your date of birth. It reduces your birth month, day and year each down to a single digit, adds the three together, and reduces once more to land on your Life Path number, from 1 to 9, or a master number (11, 22 or 33). It also gives you your Birthday number, the day of the month you were born reduced down, which points to a special talent you carry. No birth time or place required.

How to calculate it by hand

Say you were born on 25 December 1990. Reduce each part, then add and reduce again:

  • Month: December is 12, and 1 + 2 = 3
  • Day: 25, and 2 + 5 = 7
  • Year: 1990, and 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1
  • Add them: 3 + 7 + 1 = 11 — a master number, so you keep it

That person is a Life Path 11. The finder above does every step for you, including spotting master numbers.

Numerology and astrology, side by side

Numerology and astrology are two different systems, but they speak the same language. Every Life Path number ties to a planet, so your number and your chart often echo each other. Your number gives you the arc of your life; your zodiac sign and full birth chart give you the character living it. Read them together for the fullest picture, with the logic shown either way.

Astrology number questions, answered

How do I find my astrology number? +

Enter your date of birth in the finder above. It adds up the digits of your full birth date and reduces them to a single number (or a master number), which is your Life Path number, the most important number in numerology. You also get your Birthday number, no birth time or place needed.

How is my Life Path number calculated? +

You reduce your birth month, day and year each to a single digit, add those three together, then reduce once more. For example 25 December 1990: month 12 reduces to 3, day 25 reduces to 7, year 1990 reduces to 1, and 3 + 7 + 1 = 11, a master number. The finder does all of this for you instantly.

How do master numbers 11, 22 and 33 work? +

If your total lands on 11, 22 or 33 before the final reduction, you keep it as a master number rather than reducing it further. Master numbers carry the traits of their reduced root (11 to 2, 22 to 4, 33 to 6) but turned up to a higher, more demanding setting.

How does numerology relate to astrology? +

They are separate systems, but they rhyme. Each numerology number is traditionally tied to a planet (1 to the Sun, 2 to the Moon, 3 to Jupiter, and so on), so your Life Path number adds a layer that echoes your chart. Read them side by side for a fuller picture, then cast your free birth chart for the astrology half.

How is my Life Path number different from my zodiac sign? +

Your zodiac sign comes from where the Sun was in the sky on your birthday; your Life Path number comes from the maths of your full birth date. The sign describes your character, the number describes the journey and lessons of your life. Find your sign with the Astrology Sign Checker.

How do I use my numbers day to day? +

Read your Life Path as the theme of your life and your Birthday number as a special talent you carry. Use them for self-reflection and timing, not as fixed rules. The point is insight you can act on, not a verdict to obey.
